PIKEY'S TEAMS OF SIX

Round five saw me back at willinghurst for another exciting day with the wind and the rain and the freezing cold. But with hope of a decent draw in a vain hope of a few fish ..well you never know your luck !! As i enter the cabin i see the usual face's greet you with smile on their faces on which doesn't normally last long once they know where they have drawn and that includes mine,as it's soon wiped off my face when i'm told by mick the bookie (my team captain) that i've drawn peg 2 in the bomb hole at top lake...great another very hard day ahead.
After quick chat to gleam any info i was gladly informed that the guy who was pegged there on wednesday ..blanked !!

Well with peg 2 has been know to throw decent weights up,but mostly in the warmer months as its a foot and a half deep and when its cold like it is today your on a pretty much hiding for nothing, and if ..that's a big if they are happened to be there you could have a day of foul hookers as the fish use the peg as a sort of high way from the back spit to the main lake...oh what joy !!
Right the task ahead was to try and catch a fish...so two rigs again was needed a near inside rig and an open water rig and funnily enough the same two rigs i had made up for the last round with slight adjustments and we were sorted.

The fat bloke shouts the all 'in' and we off, i cupped in a few 4mm pellets to the tree to my right and a few more to the 'tree' in open water, and with the wind and rain in my face i was really looking forward to this ..can't you tell !!
So with an exciting day ahead and beautiful weather what more could a man ask for..perhaps a few fish ??(yeah right !!)
Any way an hour in and i've not had a bite, not even a mear wobble ..nothing, and i'm rotating my pegs the two i've fed and the one i've not,on which is tight to the far bank of grass which i can easy reach with 13mtr of pole.
I'm now getting totally despondent and fed up, just staring at my pole float, then it dips and it slips under..fish on !! after playing it for what seemed an eternity i finally slip the landing net under it...a carp for around 6lbs safely in the keepnet.
The next ship out to the same spot and the float just flew under and another fish on,but i knew straight away it was fouled hooked by just the way it took off and kept on going and heading out to the main lake to my left....then every thing went slack and it was gone...well that was my day.
I kept on rotating my pegs but it wasn't going to happen...so in good despondent fashion i went for a walk to see dave 'pikey' pearson on peg 12 on pitance to give him some guidance(probably the best peg on the complex).

After my little exercise i returned to my peg ,had another look just in case there was a fish or two about but nothing, and there wasn't going to be either,so i packed up and my single fish weighed in for a grand total of 6lb 8oz,and as for the team we came........last !!
But as a final note.. mick the bookie on his last cast of the day and more or less packed up had a bite and nearly had his rod dragged in and only just managed to grab his rod...how spawney ??

WILLINGHURST PIKEY'S TEAMS OF SIX

What can i say, i'm going right off the the place,in the last two visits i have in total caught 9lb of fish !! hence the lack of enthusiasm for writing this blog...any way round 4 saw me pegged on the back spit of top lake, peg 26 to be precise .. and not where i wanted to be say the least.
Any way the game plan was to set up two pole rigs, one on the in side line and one for the long pole at 16mtr both baited with either pellet or corn and a bomb rod set up for tight over to the far bank with the same bait but hair rigged.

Any way the all 'in' is shouted and i ship out my long pole rig with a single pellet on and hope i hook a mug fish on which never happened, after about 15 minutes i shipped back, put my top kit on the pole roost and picked up my bomb rod,on which is an eleven foot carbon active with a 1oz tip,and the reel is an old shimano 5010gt bait runner with 6lb maxima and 0.21 hook length and a 16 hook and a half ounce lead, so that's the set up .. simple.

Any way after an two hour wait and two casts and not even a liner and just sitting watching a motionless tip and catupulting a few pellets over to the far bank i'm bored ridged to say the least, need another plan as its very obvious that there's no carp in my peg, so a quick dive in my rod holdall to grab another top kit with light elastic, and opened my one of my rig draws on my box to retrieve a roach rig and hopefully catch a few as theres been a few small fish topping.

After a quick plumb up at 12mtrs i had two and a half foot of depth, 4x12 carpa chimp set to fish on the drop with a size 20 hook and a .10 hook lenght, and i quickly cupped in some micro pellets and maggots, shipped back out with the rig baited with single maggot, dropped the rig in let it settled and it dipped and slid under and a 40z roach is on its way in,shipped back out again and had another but smaller about 20z on which was the average stamp of the day so after a few of these i went back out on the tip again and took to the willinghurst stance...for those who don't know what this is its basically this ...you cast you feeder/lead out flick your rod tip sink your line and fold your arms and just sit and stare at your rod tip in a real vain hope that a carp will take your bait followed by a few of its mates.Any way the 'all' out was shouted and my few roach weighed in for 2 1/2lb at least i didn't blank !!

framfield november 12th 2008

I booked myself into the wednesday open at Framfield for a complete change of venue for me, normaly I can't get out and fish on wednesday and if I can, I go to Willinghurst as the lads there are fantastic and the laughs flow all day long. I found out that Mark Hathway also had the day off and he also fancied Framfield as well, so the plan was hatched to meet there. Anyway I got up in the morning at 6.30am and with the draw at 9am I had plenty of time to sort myself out. For those who have kids you will understand this, my 18mth old son likes to play with keys and normally I put my house and car keys away so he can't get at them but this particular morning he finds them ! I find them eventually and leave my house instead of 7.30 but at 7.45 and I've still got to load my car up..loads my car up then disaster the handle of my carry-all is caught over the lock of the car boot and wedge's the car boot shut so I can't open it..by now i'm very nearly loosing the plot and going to do a "John Cleese" you know the scene were he's hitting the car...any way I get manage to get on the road and of course I hit the traffic school run and people going to work etc, Mark phones me and asks in a nice and calm polite voice "were am I"? To cut a long story short Mark drew my peg for me and text me my peg number peg 48 and I arrived ten minutes late, and met up with him collecting his nets as you use the fishery's own, now to those who have never been to Framfield there's two lakes Brookhouse and Spring with island running up the middle of them when you collect your nets you give the guy your peg number and he gives you nets accordingly, if you draw an average peg you get the one net if you draw a good peg you get two nets ........I got two ! Anyway I get to my peg, quickly studied the 'pitch' as it were, the far bank was out of the question for the pole as it was about twenty metres away with a small bay,a bush to my right on the inside on which i would be sharing with my neighbour and another inside peg to my left, so the plan was two inside lines one left and right and a 13 metre attack in the middle of the track with the option of a bomb rod over tight in the bay if needs be or go longer on the pole say 14 to 16 metres. The bait would be corn and pellet down the edge's and just pellet on the long pole line and either pellet or corn hair rigged on the bomb rod, and my pole rigs consisted of 0.10 on the long pole with grey hydro and 0.13 for the inside lines and all with carpa 3's 4x12's dotted and with tubbys 808 16's for inside with 6mm pellet and 18 for long with 4mm pellet, plumbed up i had two foot by the bush and two and a half foot left inside and three foot on the long pole line(hence the float size). On the whistle i cupped out a small cup full of pellets on the long pole line and a full cup by the bush and half a cup by left with a few grains of corn. I shipped out on the 13 metre line with a 4mm expander on the hook and 'pinged' 6 pellets at a time ..now you may think why he's not kinda cupping ? well with the amount of fish in these lakes you get them feeding on a penny, and you'll end up with foul hookers, anyway ten minutes in and every body has had fish and the guy to my right is on two (apparently he more or less lives there, abit like Pikey with Willinghurst), then my float dips 'here we go' I think and out fly's a two inch roach..well its a fish !! I pinged half a dozen pellets out and shipped the pole out...the float settle's and dip's again fish on ..carp around about the two and a half pound mark is in the net 'relief' we're off the mark.. pinged shipped the pole out again then another carp about the same size followed and another, I kept the routine more or less going for the whole of the match pinging 4 4mm every ten seconds as well as lifting and dropping the rig...I did look at my inside lines through out the day but there was nothing there even my neighbour never had a bite off that shared bush, I more or less caught all day long off the one line at 13 metre and when they backed off a little I went to 14 metres and the bomb rod never entered my head, needless to say I weighed in 82lb for a match win.
